The 12th International Congress of Mongolists, a global gathering of scholars dedicated to the exploration of Mongolian history, culture, and heritage, took place at the newly opened Chinggis Khan National Museum of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar from 10 to 13 August 2023. This event, organized by the International Association of Mongolian Studies, usually convenes every five years and made a triumphant return after a seven-year hiatus due to the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the participation of approximately 400 scholars from across the globe was opened by the President of Mongolia, Mr. Ukhnaa Khurelsukh.
A high point for us during the Congress was our own Professor Li Narangoa being awarded with Mongolia's highest state honor, The Order of Polar Star. At an official ceremony held at the Presidential Office, President Khurelsukh presented this prestigious award to Professor Li Narangoa, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the field of Mongolian studies and her unwavering dedication to fostering cross-cultural understanding.
The Polar Star Award represents not only a personal triumph for Professor Li Narangoa but also a recognition of CHL, CAP and the ANU in the ongoing efforts to promote Mongolian studies in the Southern Hemisphere.
Professor Li Narangoa was also elected to serve the International Association of Mongolian Studies Board as vice president in the coming five years.
