Dr. Narantuya (Nara) Ganbat is a research affiliate at the ANU Mongolia Institute and a Visiting Fellow at the ANU School of Regulation and Global Governance. She is the Commissioner at the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, overseeing civil and political rights issues, including private data protection. From 2016-2020, Dr Ganbat has been lending her expertise as an independent expert, collaborating with international development agencies, civil society organisations, and various businesses in many countries. Her consultancy work was focused on human rights law, constitutional law, public international law, governance and corporate social responsibility. In her previous tenure at the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia from 2004 to 2012, Dr. Ganbat worked in various roles, including Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Officer. Her earlier dedication to social justice and human rights also led her to serve as a Campaign Coordinator at Amnesty International Mongolia in the 2000s, working towards ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Dr Ganbat holds a PhD from the Australian National University, with her research shedding light on the domestic impacts of the international human rights treaty regime. She also earned an LL.M. from the University of Melbourne, concentrating on international law, constitutional law, and human rights. Dr. Ganbat graduated from the Law School of the National University of Mongolia, obtaining a LLB degree majoring in international law.
